I posted this here because it was where I saw most of his posts.

What ever happened to Raphis? He was on the opposite coast from me, but back in 2015 when I got back into metal detecting, he was key in helping me with the Etrac, and just detecting in general. He was a silver monster! No posts from him in over 2 years and nothing in years before that.

Just going through old posts like I do occasionally and it got me wondering. I'm not even sure how many here remember him...lol

He helped me a ton too, I've had many convos with raphis. Not sure why he left, but last I heard he was doing good. Jamflicker too, both are very skilled with FBS.... good to see you bud đź‘Ť

I believe Jam and Raphis park detected together in Southern Cali. Good to see you too Jeff. We still need to get together to hunt!

Yep, Dan is his name, also known as CaptSEPro on YT. Quit posting here because of argumentative idiots and contrarians questioning about all of his posts. Got tired of wasting his time trying to help people out. Probably same reason you haven’t seen Jam either, just too much idiocy. Two great guys in the metal detecting community driven away by naysayers and rude ass f*cking people. They still hunt, they’re just not here.

You summed up the way I understand it : Someone ... way-back-when ... questioned his show & tell. Ie.: Insinuated these were impossible. Dan took that as a personal attack. And thus refused to post more.

A few of us tried to encourage him telling that , in fact, that is a BADGE OF HONOR that your finds/tallies are so good, that people call you a liar. :p But Dan never saw it that way. So sad !

And yes, many people understandably wanted to become groupies. To wonder "where are you hunting" and "how do you do it" and "gee, will you show me the ropes", etc... He got tired of it.

To some people, they love the acclaim, love to babysit, etc..... Hey, who doesn't love fame ? But for Dan, that just wasn't his personality. I will leave it at that.

I got the privilege to hunt with Dan a few times (when he got up to my part of CA) and : He was incredible. A real "machine". He could sniff out silver in junky park turf, from 100 paces.

Yes, Dan is amazing at finding coins other have missed!

Jeff Kinzli, a member here, ran a California Detecting Forum for a long time and Dan was very active and helpful there as well. Would love to see him posting again!

I hunted with Dan for about 10 years but in the last year he has had some personal stuff come up and has stopped responding to messages from me and other detecting friends. It's sad because we were good friends and detected weekly together. I have reached out to him numerous times and not sure if he is still detecting or not. He is the best detectorists out there and more times than not would out hunt me.

I know Dan had some health issues a few years back. Praying he is OK and we will see him on the forums again!

That makes me sad. In September of 2015 I re-entered the hobby with an Etrac. I was clueless. I was getting advice from 10 different directions. Dan reached out to me privately, and helped me sift through the advice and give me his own. He didn't want to start problems on the forum by contradicting people. He shortened my learning curve immensely.
Praying for the best for him!

While most of us md'rs will enjoying "sparring" with each other on md'ing issues (Ford vs Chevy, and tactical debate/discussions, etc....) , yet : Dan is not that personality type. That was nice of him to chat with you on the side though !

Hey there you are! I hope you’re well and still kicking around the coins, I know Kurt is shoveling the oldies with that D2! I keep seeing different people popping up on YT channels in the comments and on different forums and chats….as long as everyone is still standing it’s all good!
I forget who it was that made a few videos of him and Dan out detecting, seeing Dan and how he actually operates is something that should be on some “best of metal detecting” video somewhere, it’s just insane. I would be dead after 2 holes trying to run with him.

Still around haha and finding the oldies when I find time to get out and hunt. Yeah, I learned a lot from him over the years. He is a machine and as Tom says a robot haha. I run into Kurt once in a while.

Dan was part of my crew back in the mid 2000s. I was there when he switched to the Se Pro. He was/is a master. We destroyed SoCal parks in our day. Many many 12+ hour hunts with Dan. After I moved to Texas, they did me the honor of replicating a random photo of me taken at Lincoln Park in LA after an all day hunt. Miss those guys. I’m still in regular contact with them. Dan’s doing great.

Great picture! Reminded of the old Kinzli's Coils California detecting forum. I am pretty sure Jeff is in Texas also now.

I see Jayson ! He lives in SF now. Doesn't seem to get out and hunt much any more.

I think this is the video series you’re referencing:
This video is part 5 of 5, the wrap-up after a long day at ElysianPark in LA. Dan and I each got 10 silvers that day. Dan crushed nickels that day. I got two barber dimes. Those were fun times.

Great video. Anyone who hunts junky So. CA parks can enjoy that skill, competition & strategy. But : I am convinced that Dan (Capt. SE) is a robot. He's not human. So his finds don't count. Tsk tsk. :sissyfight:

Good to see Val in there ! Done many hunts with Val & Jason. Love the video start with in-situ live reveals.

Jayson, as said, is now in San Francisco. And has been in on several old town park renovation scrapes in SF, where hundreds of silver coins turned up. Fun fun !

Glad to hear Dan is doing great and still in touch with some of his friends. We had many good times and hunts over a 10 plus year period hunting almost every weekend together.
