Manticore and Xterra Pro coils.

Mark , what do you compare the Exterra to ? As to someone asking for advice- like a newbee , I own top end machines , so I wouldn't know, but would like to know how good that low end machine is, for someone who has had the machine , I would bet that the machine was just to compete for the LOW end market , Earl
Did you ever run your Equinox in 5, 10 or 15 kHz? That is basically what you get with the X-Terra Pro. An Equinox 700 but with 4 single frequency options, a slightly wider (more forgiving) ground balance range for its Beach mode and the big ones......it really is waterproof, has a nice shaft system and it uses Equinox coils. No Multi IQ operation or settings included on the XTPro. So, if you are a person that doesn't need simultaneous multi frequency operation but really likes the Equinox/Manticore platform and wants a simple to use selectable single frequency detector for a backup, or if you are a diver, or if you are a newbie, the X-Terra Pro makes sense. If there is any level of iron mineralization in your ground, the X-Terra Pro is going to struggle just like the Equinox, Manticore, Legend, Deus 2 if they are switched to single frequency operation.

If you already have an Equinox 700, 900 or Manticore you have an X-Terra Pro living inside those detectors already. Just switch to single frequency and see how you like it.

Probably the amount of defective M11 coils that they have to remake...
My M11 coil has been perfect as long as I have owned it. I musta missed the threads of all of these other defective M11 coils. ML simply doesn't have enough confidence to deliver the newer coils on the Manticore, and it will soon be December!

Knock on Wood Martin , I got my Manticore the beginning of Jan. , no coil defects , what pisses me off , is the extra coils for the Nox were out in 6 months , Manticore 11 1/2 months & real hard to get , ML dropped the ball , they have to realize , I hunt with the 15 coil at the beach , if this is going to be a future issue getting extra coils , Ill pass on buying there machine's , I didn't need the Manticore , but I will remember this down the road , happy hunting , Earl

WHAT IN THE WORLD is keeping Minelab from delivering on the M8 and M15 coil for the Manticore? What gives? It has been like forever.
Probably because they have been too busy with low end products. I really think Nokta has got their attention and they are concerned and rightly so that they will get knocked off the top of the pile. Its coming. Maybe your extra coils will be in before spring. Good luck. Mark

I finally got my m15 yesterday, it was just dumb luck I found one. There was a dealer that posted on Facebook he had 4 in stock, I called and got it ordered immediately. l’m number 5 on the waiting list with another dealer, I’ve called every month since January to check status. Minelab really dropped the ball on the release of the machine and coils. Still looking for an m8 though.

if I don’t get to the beach today I’ll make it tomorrow and hunt for a few hours before the rain comes in. I will post after I have a few hunts under my belt.

Its Multi Frequency

I doubt that the X-Pro has an SMF Beach Mode for two reasons. 1) I doubt Minelab would sell anything SMF at that price point. 2) It would be a great selling point, yet Minelab doesn't advertise the X-Pro as having an SMF beach mode. I'm thinking that Jeff is likely correct, in that it probably has some sort of enhanced saline balancing. If so, it would be adequate in wet salt, but probably no match for SMF.

All the evidence suggests that Nokta is landing solid blows on Minelab (Codan). So far, Minelab has been able to get back off the floor, but I think the Score models will be the death blow for Minelab in the coin and jewelry market. My prediction is that in about 2 years from now, Codan will sell Minelab.

I don't think so minelab has always been a step ahead of the others . I have a feeling muti-iq will be a thing of the past . Remember what Mark Lawery said the manticore was a one and done there would not be a manticore 2 or 3 . So will new tec replace muti-iq ? .
Minelab is not sitting around the flagship is coming might be out of peoples price range but will sell . sube

IF Minelab was still a private company, I might agree with you. Now, with Codan owning Minelab, and having to appease shareholders, the priority is profit above all else. Codan's investor reports, shows that the profit of their Minelab division has been plummeting. That profit loss is mainly due to Nokta and XP (mostly Nokta). Codan has become desperate, and that's why they put Minelab's name on such a poor performing metal detector like Voyager.

One way I can see Minelab holding on, is if they come out with game changing new technology. I'm talking game changing, as in the ability to distinguish between aluminum trash and gold jewelry. That's not possible with an induction balance metal detector, but it's possible with a true imaging detector. The closest we have to a true imaging detector, is the Nokta Invenio, and Nokta has patents on the imaging technology.

The only other way I can see Minelab holding on, is if they drastically drop the prices of their detectors. Codan's shareholders won't allow that. In fact, the shareholders are about to raise the prices on all Minelab detectors.

So yes, all the evidence points to the fall of Minelab, or Codan selling Minelab.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that Nokta's submersible PI and new gold detector are coming down the pipe. That means further major hits to Minelab.

Just a opinion like mine but minelab in my opinion will be the first with new tec . sube

I think that profit loss is almost entirely due to the collapse of the African gold detecting market. With that market not producing, Codan has indicated a renewed interest in the recreational market.

I highly doubt it will be any new technology, but I do expect a successor to the CTX3030 is in the works. Minelab has left plenty of requested features off of the Manticore. Many of us have thought all along that is because they are holding those features back for a new flagship VLF.

It would be interesting to know the exact sales numbers of Minelab's gold detectors, compared to their recreational detectors, as well as the differences in profit margins. But ya, given their eye opening prices on their gold detectors, I would think they were making a heck of a lot more profit on their gold detectors. However, even if there was no African gold market collapse, Garrett has the Axiom now, and even the D2 and Legend are no slouches as gold detectors.

Regarding a new flagships:

I could have sworn a Minelab rep said that Minelab was no longer pursuing BBS / FBS. Something about not being able to overcome the power consumption and slow speed issues. Although, if Minelab does introduce another flagship in a couple of years, then they'll likely face fierce competition. For example, in a couple of years, both Nokta and XP would be due for new flagships.

Oh, I'd be shocked if it were FBS. And I'd be surprised if it isn't marketed as a "next step", call it Super Multi-IQ+++ or something.

The coin machine market is a situation where everyone is fighting for a bigger share of a shrinking pie and that's never a good position to be in. For anyone. I'd guess we'll see more low end and Chinese made stuff before the new flagship surfaces. That's just the state of the market.

There is a lot of meat left on the bone for a new ML flagship machine though. Lots of things they can do with it outside of any really new tech. Be priced higher than I'll be interested in, but so is the CTX.
