has anyone been biten?

YEP!!! That's how I got my nickname...

Brer Rattler got me about 9 years ago, while I was walking down a street in Tucson, in the dark, in sandals... I guess he was pissed that I stepped on him...

I think I broke his spine when I stepped on him because he was rattling and flopping around when i took off up the road for a ride to the hospital...

See a snake once in a while, then again you don't want to go wandering in the Florida brush without a snakebite kit, or a sidearm with snakeshot either. I don't go near the reeds in the fresh water much. Them water mocs will chase you out faster then Hoser running away from a spider. You see a 5 ft cotton mouth looking at you. Time to beat feet out of there...The biggest pain here is the dreaded fire ant. Those things are small and will get on in masses faster then white on rice............................Gil..............

By the way... My doctor and neighbor, who was a herpatoligist, both told me never use a snake bite kit... Just get to a hospital... The kits usually do no good and can make it worse... Snake... :o(

Could they save him ?

Not an experience I'd like to go through. Whenever I bet a mosquito bite, they seem to go sceptic :(

Sorry mega it was either you or me, every man for himself... Laughing

heheh I'll remember that when ya sweep your coil over a yellow jackets nest :P

Well, I've had a little bit of most of that. Been torn up by fire ants in Louisiana, stung by about 50 hornets in Texas when I was young (accidentally disturbed their nest in the swing set), been bit by non- poisonous snake, killed 2 copperheads and caught 3. Currently own 2 tarantulas (had 4), and have one amelienistic corn snake. Am actually selling the spiders and snake tomorrow. Tired of caring for them.

Hey Bear... did you get the skin from one of your tarantulas and preserve it yet?
That's pretty cool how they can back out of the old skin an' leave a perfect replica of themselves.
It's neat to see company's faces when they see one of them skins just layin' around somewhere.

You, sir, are a twisted and evil man. Where can I get one o' dem skins? :D

(Aw, not you too, OH...!?!)
Tarantulas shed their skins just like a snake... only whole. The skin looks just like the real thing from a distance.
Where can you get one? Get a hold of th' Bear before he sells 'em tomorrow!

You think that's fun, you should see how people react when you put a stuffed full size black bear in unexpecting places. I know a conservation officer that has one and has scared the !@#$ out of people (including myself). Flip on the light in the bathroom and there it is. Gets em every time. :D

Actually I've given almost every one of the tarantula "molts" to friends who play tricks on their wives and kids. It's great. I put one in a friend at works toolbox. He freaked!! Tee Hee.
It's especially good if you catch them molting. Then you can retrieve the molt when it is still pliable. You can fold the abdomen skin back over and pose the legs like it is standing there and let it dry like that. They are very fragile when they dry out though. Actually one of my spiders died from a bad molt. He couldn't get all the way out (usually from lack of moisture in the exoskeleton). I had to put him in the freezer. Spider's regulate their temperature through the air temp around them so basically he just kind of falls to sleep and dies.
