okay, guys... hopefully someone can chime in and help me on this one. the only hunting I really do, is for civil war relics. my main machine I hunt with is the XP Deus. I love the machine, and it does great in trashy areas. I frequently hunt construction sites downtown, so that works out well. I haven't had much of a real world chance to test out the depth it has on a civil war bullet or button. I think it probably does okay, but I would like to be able to reach on down there for the deep bullets. that being said, I'm wanting to buy a secondary machine to use when I'm hunting bullets, buttons, etc... that might be fairly deep. I'm sure the Fisher F75 fits this bill, but it also has some features that I don't like/need. having to scroll through all the stuff you don't need, just gets aggravating. also, I don't like that it takes 4 batteries, and they are in a bulky box hanging off the back of the arm rest. I do like that it has the DP setting in tones. (I think that's basically like a full tones setting) I like the Teknetics Omega 8000, and the Fisher Goldbug, but I'm not sure if the depth is what I'm looking for. I like that they use only (1) 9 volt battery, and that they don't have the bulky battery box hanging down in the back. from what I understand, the F75 will go deeper on a bullet, but does anyone know what kind of difference we're talking about? obviously, there are many variables, but I'm just looking for a good average. I'm in middle Tennessee, and my soil isn't usually too bad. it would be nice to spend less money, but I'm more concerned with the performance and features that I'm looking for. any info or help would be greatly appreciated.

If your looking for deep bullets or anything deep in trash ,the f75 cant be beat.its a trade off with all machines, minelabs id well but are extremely slow, fishers are lightning fast but read everything, and nu.bers bounce.Tones is where its at,and if it sounds good I dig it.Numbers can be changed just by a other metal close to a coin,I don't rely on them.
Hard to beat a f75ltd for relics

thanks for the info! it will probably end up being the F75, but hopefully, some others will chime in also.

I've just found out about the Fisher F70. that seems like a good compromise to me. does anyone know how the depth of the F70 compares to the depth of the F75 when using the same coil? I really like that the F70 is has a shaft mounted box, and that it also has the delta process option to utilize full tones.

I own several detectors including the F75 LTD, AT Pro, Minelab E Trac, Makro Racer.
I bought the F75 because I heard how well it worked in relic hunting. It was brand new out of the box when I took it down to Culpeper on a relic hunt. There was a group of guys there all running the F75 and they were kind enough to give me some pointers. I must say that I was impressed with this machine. I pulled a Eagle cuff button out at 8" under some huge high tension power lines and the machine was uber stable in the process.
Also in 30 some years detecting I had never found a seated coin but the F75 changed that sniffing out my first seated buried deep below a root in my favorite "Hunted out" park

Out Of all 3

The F75 with boost & DST gets it, own a Omega also, it's not as deep, the Gold bug Pro is geared more for gold set at 19 kHz, you will be happy with the F75ltd2, never had a problem with any Fisher machines, pay the extra money, get the best, Earl

Well first of all what size coil are you running on your Deus. The 11" coil will get down there if detector is set up for optimum depth.

Is the F75 deeper on relics overall--yep

But you must have a unit with boost.

The original boosted F75s are on paper actually deeper than the newer DST F75 units. But the max useable/attainable depth is generally greater with DST units. EMI is the reason.

Now the AM on the original F75 boosted units is deeper than the newer DST units.

Omega 8000 not as good a relic machine as F75---frequency too low.

While I only a few programs on the F75, it is a very good detector.

I have owned the F75 for a few years now and it will hunt. While I have dug targets beyond the 12" inch mark. Most places are too trashy to try depth. I have the old gold handled F75 with the upgrade to LTD2. I mostly use the stock coil and dont worry about coil overload. It is very sensitive on small pieces of jewelry and anything more than coin size you will be able to hit deep. I hunt it all and would say it is a great all around detector. Now here is the rub, most places are too trashy to run full power. You have to choke the F75 to get the most out of it. Yo actually loose depth with too much power. But the good news is, it is deep even at low power. The VDI numbers are in the ball park. The all metal mode is killer if you like to go slow and low. But you can generally swing the F75 with a fairly brisk speed. I have noticed the faster yo swing, the deeper the F75 is on a single target. The F75 grabs the best target out of the bunch. It does coil wrap around and you can hear when there is more than one target. I hunt with guys who own the T2. The T2 is a great gold and relic detector. I recently purchased the AT Pro. Another good relic and coin detector, and it goes 10" easily on a buried coin. I like the iron audio function on the AT Pro. It allows you to hunt or turn on iron audio on those deep iffy targets. I use the 5x8 coil and suggest that setup. The Deus and some minlabs will be in that price range also. All these detectors produce. But the T2 is most likely the deepest. The T2 has 40 steps of Iron discrimination. But if you will hunt coins, your going to want the F75. If you just want to get into the hunt, get the AT Pro. Thats my experience on depth. F75 equals coins, and T2 equals relics.

sorry, I failed to mention deus coil size. it's a 9".

thanks for all the good info. I ended up going with the F70. seems to have the power of the F75, without all of the features that are unnecessary for me.
