Well, I wanted a heavy duty aluminum scoop with a round, heavy duty stainless tip and I think I have it.
Most standard tips are 16-14 gauge and I started out wanting to use 12 gauge, but couldn't get it. So, I had a piece of 6", sch 10 S/S pipe at home and although heavier than I planned I went with it. Sure wish I had a piece of sch 5 , at .109 it would have been perfect
I was going to use solid, 3/16" s/s rivets but would have ordered more, because of the heaver metal, I didn't have the correct size. The plan was to run the rivet from the back side and consume the portion coming through the stainless with a tig torch.
Not being a patient person and not wanting to have to wait for the rivets I went a different way and really like the outcome.
I used 1/4" S/S carrige bolts. I ground the square collar round, cut them to the length and consumed them with the tig torch. I did have to use a little filler wire on the initial fit-up.
The bearing on both inside and outside with this method is outstanding, as you can see in the pictures. I don't know how the scoop will hold up but the tip should hold up well under and any conditions I run into.
As stated above, 12 gauge, ( .1046 ) would have been perfect, IMHO, but I went with what I had and am satisfied with the results.
Thanks for looking....
