Hello, I'm Jason and I recently purchased a Minelab Gold Monster 1000 to search for gold items. The laws in Georgia are very restrictive for legal metal detecting. There are still a few places to prospect/treasure hunt, but with additional legal provisions. I also joined GPAA. Thanks for...

To hot - too wet in Atlanta

This August has been hot as usual. What is unusual is the rain. It seems to rain every afternoon or every other afternoon and sometimes 1 .5 - 2.0 inches in 30 minutes. Places I hunt have steep creek beds and the banks now are very slippery with mud. It has kind of just worn me out and made...

I finally give up on this CW site.

It is a park in Atlanta that was the scene of a huge battle at Peachtree Creek on July 20, 1964. Millions of bullets were fired and dropped on that day. You think I could find at least one. Have hunted that park and the creeks off and on for the past two years. Using my 800 so that is no excuse...

Glad for the forums with all this rain in Atlanta

We are in a cycle of 5 days of rain and 2 days without rain. Feels like Seattle, WA here. Too muddy even on the clear days at most places I hunt. But I am logging in some good research time. I suspect it is the same for detectorists in the SE and up in East where a lot of rain ends up.

getting permission near civil war battle fields

I live in north Atlanta. Sherman brought his boys down to Atlanta from Chattanooga in 1864. Came down on a route which is now basically I-75 from Chattanooga to Atlanta. He had a number of pretty intense battles before he crossed the Chattahoochee river for the final bloody campaign for the...

race against time for Georgia Civil War hunt areas

atlanta has been and is growing very fast. a study several years ago predicted based on current growth rates will be one of the largest cities in the US. Why? it has no natural boundaries like older US cities. Most older cities are on the coast so they can only grow in 3 directions. They...
