What a day for me. Prior to today the most multi-silver recoveries in the state of Washington was 5, today it was 7!!! A great cap gun relic, a bunch of Sterling and some .900 silver from Uncle Sam. RainorShine and I hit our normal town haunt and were focused on permissions, one of the first permissions we got was with a very interested and supportive homeowner that watch us with fascination and excitement as we hunted his front yard. At first it was kind of slow but things started to pick up with a decent Wheat signal that I dug and gave to the homeowner, then I got a great 92-93 on the 'Core and dug down to see a silver rim looking up at me. Turning it over in the hole I noticed it wasn't a US coin but a foreign coin (I thought Panamanian at the time). Covered up the plug, rescanned and there was still another 92-93 in there....reopened, scanned with the pinpointer and found a very large reeded edge staring up at me, turned THAT over and it was the same foreign reverse. Covered the plug again and scanned again and there was still a 91-92 in there, reopened the plug and out came the 1936S Washington. WHAT A SPILL!! The half dollar sized coin is a 1941 Australian Florin and the other was a 1917 Australian 1 Schilling (quarter sized).
I covered it up again and got another signal albeit much lower and discovered a wheat hiding in the hole (gave that to the homeowner). Kept swinging and came upon a Buff (gave that to the homeowner). All this while, Gale (RainorShine) hadn't been having the same level of success on the other side of the yard. We got permission to hunt his backyard (he had found a few bottles in his backyard) and there was nothing except one signal (a 93-94) super shallow and basically 1 inch down. I dug down and found the Sterling Oneida Melbourne pattern spoon (31.6 grams of .925).
The 1950 Horton cap gun I recovered right in front of the homeowner (basically at his door step) and he was beyond excited that I found it and gave it to him. I was so appreciative and supportive....it was a great educational period for us while he allowed me to hunt his fruitful yard.
The hunt kept going on other properties and while I only found another wheat, I was able to find the Rosies (1957D and 1964D) and the 1964D Washington on another permission and curbstrip.
An epic day for me!
