I've only been detecting for about 4 years, but I'm primarily looking for older items, whether it's out of circulation coins or interesting relics. Basically anything older than me with writing on it that can be researched is cool in my book All that said, I still happily dig any clad that I encounter along the way, because why not? And clad certainly represents the vast majority of my actual finds. But for me, if all I dug was clad, the hobby would quickly become uninteresting. Maybe if there was more clad in my area to be found I would feel differently, but I rarely come home with more than a couple bucks in clad each hunt - the public spaces in my area have been hit too hard already by past detectorists, and we all know clad isn't getting replenished as fast as it used to. I'm frankly in awe of the guys who consistently bring home $10-20 in clad each hunt - I've literally never encountered any site near me that would allow that sort of total in one hunt, let alone consistently. My maximum clad total for a hunt was about $9 at a lake beach in 2-3 hours, next highest was around $8 at a former golf course, but that took about 4 hours.
