Public school ballfields, playgrounds

How did you look to the person that told you that ? If you are at a city park when people are likely to see you it is best to look very low key. No finds pouch or knee pads. No visible digger.

No finds pouch? No knee pads? No visible digger? How about the detector??? That's what scares them the most.

For a Human to live on this Planet and do what he pleases....Avoiding people is an important skill...next is bugs....In both cases, its all about timing...

wise words.

Well, the older I get, the more important this skill becomes....from experience, Humans are super dangerous and best avoided altogether....Yes, Metal Detecting is the perfect vector to practice and hone this format in the day to day...A guy tells himself, "I'm not out looking for metal, I'm out here to see if I can get in and out unnoticed by any and all Humans"...

Well, after 50+ years of trying to be invisible, going wherever I want and doing whatever I please, I'm pretty damn good at it!.....I cant win a door prize at a Tupperware party, I have to wear a name tag at a Family Reunion..If I died someday, nobody would miss me except maybe for my dog....possibly the Wife might notice after @48hrs of me stinking up the joint sitting in the chair in front of the TV in the living room....Yelling at me to take the garbage out or mow the lawn with no reply....But thats normal, no cause for concern, so maybe not?...I might sit there for a week or two, rotting away like a fruit basket banana....a few re-runs of Deadliest Catch or Bering Sea Gold, or the Office might cause her some trepidation for to take a closer look..? That and the dog nibbling away on my carcass of course...

A guy has to behave accordingly to have any hope of avoiding trouble and live a peaceful Life here on this Planet...Low Carbon Footprint! No Tracks or Trace! In and out! No tombstones or obituary in the paper... Like fog..or a coyote...in and out without no witnesses...thats the ultimate goal...We only got about 40yrs here give or take, the average Human that is, less than a box turtle......and thats being optimistic! Its much easier to be dead than alive here for certain...so a guy tries to max the benefits of each! Rattle some chains when appropriate...

The Schools in South Carolina are fenced with gates that are locked. Also some of them have very large No trespassing signs. Having said all that if the gate is unlocked i view that as an invitation to come detect. I have only been run off one time so far

... and I'm sure that to some extent that's true ....

"holes" is often the "go-to" reason that someone gives to us. Eg.: "No because of holes", or "Scram because of holes". So the md'r mutters under his breath "durned that person who must've left holes". But in those situations, I'm not convinced there was ever necessarily anyone who left holes. In most of those times it's merely what they THINK results from md'rs .

So even when an md'r leaves utterly no trace (covers, stomps and fluffs up), yet the fact that someone just saw you down on the ground during retrieving, they will simply assume "holes".

Correct. You can spend your entire life trying to get every last person on earth to "love & adore you", or .... you can just avoid bumping into those few kill-joy persons. What they don't see, can't hurt them.

Yeah? Large 'Keep Out' signs you say? Meanwhile Nicaraguan vagrants are scaling a 30' International border fence? The hell Butters! Perspective!

FWIW, I think all schools should be fenced and locked permanently....Serpintina wire and dogs patrolling...to keep the Students out for their own good....Schools now a days are a Monster Factory...Illiterate 300lb Killing Monsters who cant read a 'Keep Out' sign anyway, so hop that fence and have at it if you wish....

Tom...that was my point.

I think some of these so called holes are made by animals. Around here the squirrels are digging every where right now. I see several small holes all over the place.

I have read about a detectorist that was yelled at by one of his permissions for leaving holes. It turns out is was a neighbors dog doing the digging.

Most of the schools around here are gated and locked and no trespassing signs.

I have one place that is school property and is an open field that use to be a horse racing track area back in the 1880's. It is owned by the school board and is about 4 miles from the nearest school. Think I can get permission, NO! They are worried about insurance and being held responsible if I strain my back pulling all that old silver. :(

I always use a written permission and release of liability form. One copy for me to carry and one for the one giving permission. I can send you a copy of the form. Just request on my website: <<LINK REMOVED>>

Always best to seem to be as harmless as possible. Unfortunately there isn't an invisible detector or detectorist. Shouldn't keep you from doing what you can to look low key if you are going to be seen.

You never detect without a written permission and release of liability ? I find that hard to believe. That would rule out most places that you could detect without those things.

This is the 8th year since I started so I like my odds but it's pretty hard to mask a detector as a walking stick. 😂

Maybe he meant for just when someone requests it. But if a place needs-no-permission (public grounds with no rules forbidding), then I agree that to show someone a pre-fab permission contract is the FASTEST way to get a "no". It just conjurs up legal hassles.

The only time I would ever show someone a contract, is if THEY bring it up. Then ... sure ....

I always use a pouch and knee pads. Additionally I have a digger that's in a sheath. I think your concerns are somewhat over the top. BUT......how about shovels? Camo clothing and backpacks?

Speaking of only doing things with permission, there is a sub-forum for promoting ones' website. All 5 of your posts since you joined in February have been one and done comments containing a link to your site, not in that sub-forum.

Not trying to be an ass, just curious what you're after here on this fine forum linnip?

The best thing is to not be seen detecting. That isn't always practical. If you are going to be seen, it's best to not be seen with any of the things you mentioned. Concerns are never over the top as you never know what will cause someone to complain or use their authority.
