How to pick the right curb strip for old coins

:p
"I have had the police called on me probably close to 100 times now over the years. Not something I am proud of by any means, but it's the reality of this type of hunting"

I'm curious some of the comments the police have said to you? I'd think they'd have said no digging, etc. but would like to hear your comments.

100's of times? wow

So you're telling me that I can hit up 20+ sites on the NHR list, as long as I have permission from the landowner? I...am an idiot!

How do you find out who owns what land?

Yep, just get permission like nay other private property. The county tax assessors office has the records of who owns everything. Many of them are available online.

Because of our new members in the last few months, I want to make this current info. Good luck team. As always, make sure to post your impressive curb finds here

first time booted out from a curb strip hunt. an owner came at me shouting "you cant do that (gesturing a dig) to my property" - i was at the curb few yards from his house...to avoid further confrontation i just appologized and move out. no harm done but man it got me thinking - are curb really public lol
i know it is part of the city and it is also part of that guys house so in cases like that better just to get the heck out and avoid verbal confrontation...what do u curb stripping guys think?

I would have pretended like I can't hear them. then continued digging. Public is public.

Because I have discovered the world of Instagram and after having so many people reach out to me through it, I've decided to shoot this to the top. I'll edit this post in a few with a new example shortly

:impatient: Maybe edit this post shortly, with a new example in a few instead. (I kill me!)

I took the best pictures and updated my iPhone to the newest firm ware AND IT DELETED EVERYTHING! So I will head back to Queen Anne and get them again

Here is a short one since I didn't get a chance to update my other one.

This is Seattle's Space Needle. People from ALL OVER the WORLD come to see this iconic landmark. Albeit there are no curb strips around this landmark you may have a park that's just as popular with plenty of curb strips surrounding(or at most 4).

These are the kinds of opprotunities you should be taking. Everybody has to make it to the park somehow and they do so by walking to it once they park their vehicles. The clad you will find in this scenario may be overwhelming to some (me included) for the return on jewelry or old coins you have the potential for.

Being an iconic landmark the grass in this park is sod because they can afford to make sure the grass is thick and green. They do this by laying down sod which unfortunately takes everything and burries it deeper. When I see sod has been laid down I hang it up and look for a new place. In this instance I would turn to the curb strip because the majority of the time these are left original.

Some of you may have crossed off certain parks or play fields because of the turf/sod or whatever the reason may be, but did you check the curbs before you completely crossed it off?

Damn phones! :( Speaking of all this......I found my curb strips :D They are there, just have never been any concrete in them! I'll try to send ya pics later sometime.

Dude I had 45 GIGS worth of photos I hadn't gotten to put on my computer yet. I was sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo fricken pissed!

There is a little mom and pop store that everybody stopped at or went to for lunch by the school where I attended.I would love to do the curb strp near there but I would need a police escort and maybe even then it wouldn't be safe.

Great thread! Thanks for starting it Swing. This discussion inspired me to go out and start hitting some curb strips. My first time out I found a sweet silver ring. I'm definitely going back!

My question to the experienced curb strip hunters - generally, are most finds within a few feet of the sidewalk, or does it pay to search the entire grass strip? See the picture below, do I do one pass along the sidewalk or 2 or 3 passes to search all?

EXCELLENT JOB! That's what it's all about right their.

I would hit that (and any) ENTIRE strip from multiple angles. I would start on the street side and work my way into the sidewalk and then I would do it the long way paying close attention to how I work up against the curb.

The outside of the strip (closer to the street) can be VERY good because back in the day the cars got pulled up right their and they would work on and under them. I have found just as much on the outside as I have on the inside in reality.

It is VERY important you understand that it is necessary for you to return to the strips you've already done and do them again. I have one (actually several) for example that I have been hitting since 2012 and albeit the finds are fewer and fewer I am still pulling period coins and relics. You will understand this phenomenon after you get used to doing the curbs. In short, you have LAYERS UPON LAYERS to clear and until you do that there will always be something for you. Some of my best finds come in as junk on my machine, but experience has taught me that those can be good too.

You have your work cut out for you. You will have more "good" finds per square foot potential than anyone else who doesn't do curb strips. Bottom line. That means more silver, gold and cool relics, but because it's all so confined you have to be diligent.

If you think you(you being anyone) cleared a strip in one go at it then you are only kidding yourself and leaving the best for others that want it more than you.

Good luck team!
RLHJR72, you are embarking on something great and have a great start. Keep killing it.

Is there anything I haven't covered that should be? I have about 20 more segments I can think of and intend on adding this winter. I appreciate all the support this thread has gotten over the last year. I've had a TON of people reach out to me on here that are lurkers and full timers and have hunters I've met randomly digging that have seen this thread. It's truly mind blowing.

This place is rockstar status.

Hey Swing, finally got around to reading this beast of a post - Gave me motivation to go find a strip on my lunch break :) - here are the results. Thanks Swing! awesome thread

VERY NICE! A quarter to boot is always a nice extra! Glad you found the thread useful. I'm stoked so many others had good knowledge and experience to add to it also.

I have some more to add that I will be doing starting next week to try and give people something new to read through the winter.

HH and keep killing it. I appreciate you sharing in the thread for everyone and the future readers.

Because this hasn't been up since the new year I figured I'd bump it since watching the increase in new Members.

All from the same curb strips I've been pounding for 4 years. I managed to top my silver coin record of 5 and bumped it up to 7. My best hunt of the new year so far
