Yeah, a lot of us know the CT state library online has the aerials. 1934 and 1965 are free and allways download nice.
I don't have any special tricks and do the same as you. I look for paths and light areas along a lake where an overgrown swim/fishing hole was. Found wheaties and a 1925 merc from noticing where a 1934 path from an old farm met a lakes edge. Fun stuff and I got a couple of such parks that show activity and paths along water in the 34 aerial. Just scratched the surface so far, no pun intended! Ttyl

Awesome Tin! I hope your luck continues in that department all the way... Please by all means keep me and the others up to date on how those ventures go, as i have found buttons and buckles and the like on locating such paths like you..i want to see how you do at where the old parks were alongside the water...! You're liable to find anything in places such as that, that's for sure..

So I'm new to the forum but figured i should introduce myself. My name's Victor and I live in Fairfield County CT. Been MDing for a few years now, trying to get in good this year and find some heart stoppers. Only really searched my own property, since I'm not native to CT I don't know all the local hot spots. Found a few silver coins and a lot of clad but nothing to write home (or the forums) about. Very interested in learning more and trying to find others who have been doing the hbby for a while. So far just spent money on equipment and need to find a gold ring to give the wife to make the hobby not just a waste of time.

How long have I been detecting? well..... I guess 3 years by the true definition but I did have a detector when I was 10 and have been hunting bottle dumps for 30 years. My father was a historian and he turned me on to local history at a wee age and I guess metal detecting is just an off shoot of that curiosity.

I am not much a loaner and like detecting with people, but I have reservations about sharing spots with people I dont know. I guess you can call me cautious.

Honestly I almost never hunt alone and here is my gang...... we are a rough bunch, so beware if you see us around and about:











As for metal detectors. Ive had a few.... I am still searching for that perfect one. Currently I am swing a Nokta Fores core:



and I am always comparing the ones I have side by side:



Honestly, after 3 to 4 years... I think I am narrowing it down and I think FBS is the way to go, if your a coin hunter like myself. I am going to run the Nokta this season but I think it is going to be my last VLF machine. I am thinking I have been at this long enough to justify a big purcahse... and so far... nothing hits silver like the quattro. I really see a new Etrac or CTX in my future. But I will give the Nokta a fair shake and run it all this season. Its a good machine and I will say better than my Vaqero or AT pro and if your a relic hunter... look no further... but for deep silver, Minelab.

We will see.

As for hunting, I hunt it all but I primarily only look for coins. I always ignore anything that doesn't seem like its a coin. Relics and jewlery are cool.... but I feel to really be good its better to concentrate on what I am really interested in.
