Owner of an old permission site I detected today wanted to know if this was some kind of Indian artifact, found in the field near his farm. Looks interesting, axe-like, doesn't appear to be worked much. Note though, first pic, has an interesting aspect, like there might have been some band around the it possibly for attaching to a handle? No expert, told him I'd post it here to see if wiser folks can weigh in.

could it be a part of an old stone male stone carving and that part has broken off. :wow2:

I have many of these in different shapes but oddly same banding. I don't know what they are either but I chunked one in the tumbler for a couple weeks & its consistent throughout. Too porous to polish. Possibly some type of coral ???

Doing a hardness test may very well be the reason it broke off the statue in the first place:roll:

Dildite, in its early stages is usually ranked pretty high on the hardness scale. As it ages though, it becomes more and more fragile, sometimes requiring professional attention.

If was part of a male statue, I can understand loosing its hardness as time goes on. :violin:
