Epicenter was 2 miles away! 4.4 mag. It shook my house pretty good back and forth, knocked over my little emergency radio and paint cans in the garage. It was a fun ride. Many nieghbors outside.
:earthquake: It shook once then paused a minute then again. Lasted maybe 25 seconds.

Glad you're okay Metal. I don't miss earthquakes (grew up in the bay area), only, so far, knock-on-wood, get little ones up this way every once in a blue moon.

Always a scary moment and even the short ones seem long. I still remember the shaker of 89'. Didn't feel this one though. I'm on the little known San Bruno fault. I'm glad this one didn't cause a lot of damage for you.

Had one here in Central PA about 8 years ago. I had no clue what was happening thought someone ran into my house.

a couple years ago i was on a job and my crane was the busy one that day, and we had an earthquake. I didnt feell it because my crane was in motion but the other two operators felt it. I was in a two hundred foot tower.

We had a 5.9 in VA back in 2011. Epicenter was in Louisa County, where < 3.0 magnitude quakes are not that uncommon. Strong ones (for this area, not CA strong) happen about every 100 years or so.

Never been in 1 that big. Few years ago I was in a 2. 2 with the epicenter almost directly under me. My apartment on the top floor was doing a little dance

I was in a 7.2 at the condo about 6 years ago. I NEVER want to be in another that large again. 45 seconds of sheer terror on the 7th floor.

That sounds fun, We have been through so many that we just sat through it. Probably should have sought some shelter.
I went through the big one in 1989 in Marin County( near San Francisco) It was different, I got pushed forward a little and heard rumbling. That quake was longer.
Being near the epicenter made things much more dramatic!

One thing I remember about that 2011 earthquake we had was that the partitions in our office were shaking violently, and my first thought was "Who's the wise guy?". We had to evacuate, because they needed to check for structural damage. Earthquake building codes are not a thing in VA. I had to pick up stuff at home, since things fell off the shelves and walls, but nothing major.

BTW, when we were allowed back in the building, I tried shaking those partitions, and they would not move.

The people I really worry for are the ones in range of the New Madrid fault, with the folks in the Cascadia fault zone a close second.

Well now they are banning gas appliances starting in 2030, Another reason to leave California.
Keep pushing these laws California and there will be no one left in this STATE!!!

Look at it on the bright side, when everyone leaves, it will be a great place to visit! No crush on the freeways and uncrowded beaches!:laughing:

Shame what's happening, always wanted to visit cali..
Now it's not on my top 10 places in the u.s I wanna visit

KT understands, goldendreams! His Majesty, when He had the 2008 Honda Goldwing, had the dream of riding it up the West Coastal Highway, but about 3/4's up on the northern section, the highway caved into the sea, either because of an earthquake or due to a mud slide (anyway it was destroyed) and thus ended KT's California dreaming. KT would have had to trailer the bike to California, because He was not up to the drive from the Kingdom to the West Coast.....:p:p

But it was still a great dream! Was planning on doing it during retirement.
